The two aren't opposites. They are a little different. One being a form of therapy and the other more a philosophy.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a form of therapy, as noted, that tends to work with changing behavior, like if you wanted to quit smoking or something. it works with changing how you feel through what you do. I've seen techniques in dealing with people with depression where instead of doing the normal thing you might when you're feeling down: like staying in bed- a cognitive behavioral therapist would advise you to maybe go take a walk or hang out with a friend or something. So by changing the behavior, you might gradually feel better and learn a new way of coping with the emotion.
The law of attraction is kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's more a philosophy that what you believe becomes your reality. For example: if you were to believe that you were a bad person and no one liked you- you might begin to judge what other people say, become suspicious of their actions, etc- and then suddenly, really nobody does like you because of how you treat them with suspicion and doubt.
Hope that makes sense. Email me if you want to talk. |

Hollowman, I'm not an expert in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and I have checked out The Laws of Attraction in the past. Yet, they both seem to be no more than ways to give us temporary psychological satisfaction or maybe material fulfillment depending on a person's desires. In our times when many seek the meaning of life and not a temporary filler these approaches don't truly quench our thirst for the good in our lives.
Instead of man made laws,if we knew the laws of Nature we wouldn't have to subject ourselves to therapies and philosophies that make our lives feel like we are running in circles and getting no where fast. Here are some interesting links that talk about the laws of nature. Hope they help.
Hope things get better for you man...Peace

Here is a definition of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
. CBT is based on the Cognitive Model of Emotional Response.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy is based on the idea that our thoughts
cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations,
and events. The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to
feel / act better even if the situation does not change.
The last line makes all the difference. In CBT, you act and feel better even if the situation does not change. Usng the Law of Attraction, by changing your thinking, your circumstances WILL change. |

| I agree that the laws of attraction is a self-fulfilling philosophy and if you latch on to that... you will climb out of your depression. What helped me the most was an online program and here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/lfzbk8 (copy and paste.) Jill |
